June 29 Adult Camp: Sashiko Hand-Stitched Bandana
Sashiko Hand-Stitched Bandana
June 29
1-4PM
Create a unique and versatile bandana or neckerchief with Sashiko Japanese Embroidery. Originally a quilting and mending practice, Sashiko’s simple running stitch decorates and strengthens garments and textiles with bold, geometric designs inspired by nature, art, and architecture. In this workshop, we will handle Sashiko needles, prepare Sashiko thread, layout grids, and draw patterns or floral stencil motifs. Using our “small stabs” stitching strategy, we will embellish and transform a soft cotton square into a striking, functional accessory. Choose from a selection of traditional Sashiko embroidery patterns; ocean waves, linked treasures, wild grasses, triangle scales, or large flower stitch. We’ll provide everything you need. All skill levels welcome!
Class kit includes; cotton chambray square, pair of Sashiko needles, skein of thread, tapestry needle threader, take home pattern instructions
Plus access to all the communal tools & materials; rulers, scissors, water soluble fabric markers and pencils, floral templates.
Please wear your good reading glasses!
Bring your own water bottle and snack or lunch to hydrate and sustain you while we stitch.
