Class Description:

Design and Upcycling: Transform Your Jeans with Thrifted Materials—a 6-week sewing course that blends creativity and sustainability. Have you ever looked at a pair of denim jeans you thrifted and thought, "I could turn this into something amazing"? Well, now's your chance! In this class, you'll unleash your creativity and hone your fashion design skills while learning new sewing techniques.

Imagine giving your jeans a fabulous 70’s boho look by incorporating crochet lace doilies. Or perhaps you've always dreamed of turning those jeans into a funky skirt, adding bursts of color by repurposing a colorful shirt whose print you adore but the fit just isn't right. Or how about using some vibrant-colored men's ties just waiting to be transformed into the perfect flare for your new jeans-turned-fashion statement?

-To get started, all students should come to class with a pair of jeans and other thrift materials they'd like to incorporate into their designs. We'll kick things off by sketching our ideas, helping you visualize and plan your creations.

Join us for a fun and hands-on journey into the world of upcycling and fashion design. Let your imagination run wild as you transform ordinary denim into extraordinary fashion pieces that reflect your style and personality.

Course Highlights:

1. Deconstruction Mastery:

• Discover the fundamentals of disassembling a garment.

• Learn to salvage fabric, buttons, zippers, and other materials for reuse.

2. Design Exploration:

• Unleash your inner designer and brainstorm creative ideas for your upcycling project.

• Explore various styles, cuts, and embellishments to personalize your shirt.

3. Sewing Techniques:

• Gain hands-on experience with sewing machines, needles, and thread.

• Develop or refine sewing skills under the guidance of an experienced instructor.

Who Can Join:

This class is tailored for intermediate sewers aged 13-18 interested in fashion, sustainability, and creativity. Some prior sewing experience is helpful; teens who have take at least one session with us are welcome!

What to Bring:

Participants should bring their own jeans and thrifted materials. We will provide extra materials as well.

Materials and Tools:

All sewing machines, tools, and necessary materials will be provided during the class.

Class Duration:

The Upcycling Class for Teens spans 6 weeks, each class is 1 hour. Classes meet once a week, allowing ample time for hands-on learning and creative exploration.
