Adult Camp: Shibori Dyeing July 17

3 hour workshop (though some may finish earlier)

Wednesday, July 17th

Welcome to Adult Camp! In Adult Camp evening workshops, we will explore all the fun fiber arts the kids get to try during Fiber Arts Camp. In this workshop, we will dye a set of 12 cloth napkins using an indigo dye bath and shibori dyeing techniques. We like to call shibori “advanced tie-dye”. It’s the ancient art of indigo dyeing from Japan using string, wooden blocks and clamps, poles and pleats, and even embroidery.

We will explore a few simple techniques, discuss how to use indigo dye, and get messy!

If you are coming straight from work, please bring messy clothes to change into. We will provide gloves. Indigo gets everywhere and is permanent!

Although we have scheduled the workshop to last three hours, many will finish earlier. We just wanted to provide enough time for the creative process.

All materials provided. Feel free to bring other small items to dye (ex: one t-shirt, or a child’s dress).
